Otto von Habsburg Prize

for Journalism in Minority Protection and Cultural Diversity in Europe 2010

Winner of the Otto von Habsburg Prize for Journalism 2010
Stefan Hríb (týždeò, Slovakia)
Celebration of the Award: 7 May 2010, Vilnius (Lithuania)

Mr. Stefan Hríb received the prize especially for his longstanding engagement for human and minority rights which is not the main topic in the mainstream media in Slovakia. He is one of the few journalists who is fighting for tolerance and justice for people belonging to minorities and their fundamental rights. In the year 2009 he was especially reporting on the new Slovak language law which foresees the judgement of a monetary punishment if somebody is using a minority language, like Hungarian, in public life.
